Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is also a common problem, with estimates as high as 10% of children and 25% of all adults having Sleep Apnea. We also know there is a much higher rate in the older population as well as for those who are overweight or have a chronic health condition like Diabetes, Heart Disease or High Blood Pressure.

Sleep apnea occurs when there is repeated absence of breathing for a minimum of 10 seconds at a time, 5+ times an hour.
Even at this level, oxygen levels decrease in our blood and our brain; our deep sleep is interrupted and our body is prevented from properly resting while we are sleeping.

This is the reason why some people with sleep apnea struggle with fatigue & headaches, issues with mood, concentration & energy and possibly wake numerous times during the night.

Many people who snore have sleep apnea, and many people who have sleep apnea snore, but having one does not necessarily mean you will have the other.
Effective treatments for sleep apnea vary widely between individuals, so it is always suggested to see a professional to manage your care.
